I got a bad cold this season. It’s a humbling experience getting sick. It’s an out-of-body experience. I had a wonderful time with my sickness this time around for I truly accepted it as an opportunity to show gratitude for this amazing thing that is happening in my body. “Amazing thing happening” you might ask? “How is getting sick an amazing experience”? I thought of my wonderful immune system that works extremely hard to bring my system back into balance. The fact that my cells have memories of and creates a database for all viruses that have been in my system is mind-boggling. All of this phlegm coming up is my system regulating itself. Nothing is wrong with me when I’m in the throes of a cold or flu. This is my body acting exactly how it’s designed.
We’re not used to having to slow down. We think that we ought to be super heroes in this life, flying from event to session to meeting to rendezvous; never taking a moment of reflection and barely taking heed of what our body is trying to tell us.
Nature is the wisest teacher. She doesn’t rush. Everything is done just in time.
I’m looking forward to winter this year. This season is teaching me how to exhale, take in the beauty, be around family and friends and always find gratitude, especially when it’s difficult.
